About

Firm profile and philosophy

MacLeod Design & Construction, established in 1995, is a full service architecture and general contracting firm specializing in creative, innovative and high quality residential projects with an emphasis on customer service and environmental sustainability. We enjoy challenging and unusual projects that require a high degree of care and finesse in terms of the process and finishes. We consistently work with well-known local architects who have the highest standards in their work. We have successfully completed several projects on some of these architects’ own homes.
We also do our own architectural work ranging from kitchens and baths to whole house remodels or new construction. As design/builders, we are able to integrate our practical knowledge of construction materials and methods with the higher vision of well-designed beautiful spaces. Because we do cost estimating as part of the design process, we are able to adjust the project early on to accommodate the clients’ budget and avoid any large cost surprises once the design is completed.
We give high priority to environmental concerns such as renewable and recycled building materials, natural and low-toxicity materials, recycling of construction waste, energy efficiency and daylighting, and alternative energy possibilities such as photovoltaic solar panels and solar hot water panels. We are currently interested in the concept of net zero energy homes. Our goal is to create lasting and beautiful work, maintain friendly and positive long term relationships with our clients, while making the design and construction process as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Naomi was born in France, and graduated from the late Ecole d'Architecture Paris-Villemin in 1999. She started her career in France, working with various architects but also independently, as a free-lance architect designing science museum exhibits, as well as designing a log house for friends near the forest of Fontainebleau. She moved to California with her American husband and kids in 2005, and has been working at MacLeod Design & Construction ever since. She is a Build it Green Certified Green Building Professional, and a State of Califoria Licensed Architect.

Amy Morgan

Bio: Amy Morgan, office manager

Amy came to MacLeod Design & Construction with a background in financial management for a large property management organization.  She has been with MacLeod Design & Construction, however, for almost ten years now and has adapted well and enjoys working in this small company environment.  Amy also studied Studio Art and occassionally finds time to practice this skill in her free time.  At work, she just enjoys being around the creative process.  She is the one that usually answers the phone when you call the office, and she is always eager to hear what you have in mind for your upcoming projects.

Greg Tolman

Bio: Greg Tolman, master carpenter

A licensed building contractor in California since 1990, with a Master of Architecture degree from U.C. Berkeley, Greg thinks of himself first as a master carpenter, having gained the basic skills of the craft at his father’s side as a boy, and followed his passions for design, building, and especially working with wood for most of his life.  Along the way, he has operated a custom cabinet shop, built houses in high Sierra, and garnered two awards from Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association for the careful restoration of notable buildings by Bernard Maybeck and Jack Hillmer.
Greg works independantly and is on-call to help out with our trickiest projects. He also helps by filling in when the work load requires it or to supervise job site construction if Ian is unavailable.
